1. Introduction

Macabre Magazine™ is committed to protecting the privacy of every individual who visits, reads, subscribes to, or contributes to our Publication. This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes how Dark Harbor Press LLC, publisher of Macabre Magazine™ and a subsidiary of Blakemore Enterprises LLC, collects, uses, stores, and protects personal information obtained through cms.macabremagazine.com/, our affiliated platforms, and any other digital properties operated under the Macabre Magazine™ brand (collectively, the “Publication”).

By accessing or using the Publication, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use immediately.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not trade, rent, or exchange your personal data for commercial consideration. This is an unconditional commitment.


2. Definitions

“Personal Data” means any information that identifies or could reasonably be used to identify a specific individual, directly or indirectly.

“User” means any individual who accesses, browses, subscribes to, or otherwise engages with the Publication, including Readers, Contributors, and prospective contributors.

“Contributor” means any individual who submits work to Macabre Magazine™, whether or not that work is accepted for publication.

“Reader” means any individual who accesses or consumes Content through the Publication by any means.

“We,” “Us,” “Our” refers to Dark Harbor Press LLC, publisher of Macabre Magazine™.

“Third Party” means any entity other than the User and Dark Harbor Press LLC.

“Cookies” means small text files placed on a User’s device by a website for the purpose of tracking, session management, or preference retention.


3. Information We Collect

Macabre Magazine™ collects both information you provide directly and information gathered automatically through your use of the Publication.

3.1 Information You Provide Directly

We may collect the following categories of Personal Data when you voluntarily provide them:

Contact and Account Information. Your name, email address, and any other information you provide when subscribing to our newsletter, creating an account, or contacting us through any form or channel.

Submission Information. If you submit work to Macabre Magazine™, we collect your name, email address, any biographical information included in your submission, and the content of the submission itself, including any associated metadata.

Correspondence. Any communications you send to us — including emails, contact form submissions, or messages sent through social media — are retained and may be used to respond to your inquiries and improve our services.

Payment Information. If you purchase a subscription, make a contribution, or engage in any other transaction through the Publication, payment information is collected and processed through our third-party payment processors, Stripe and Patreon. We do not store full payment card details, banking information, or other sensitive financial data on our own servers. All payment transactions are subject to the privacy policies of Stripe (stripe.com/privacy) and Patreon (patreon.com/privacy) respectively. By completing a transaction through these platforms, you agree to their applicable terms and privacy practices.

Survey and Feedback Data. Responses to any surveys, polls, or feedback forms administered by or on behalf of Macabre Magazine™.

3.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you access the Publication, certain technical information is collected automatically:

Usage Data. Information about how you interact with the Publication, including pages visited, time spent on each page, links clicked, referring URLs, and navigation paths.

Device and Browser Information. Your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, screen resolution, and language preferences.

Log Data. Server logs recording access requests, error reports, and related diagnostic data generated by your interaction with the Publication’s website and infrastructure.

Cookies and Similar Tracking Technologies. Macabre Magazine™ uses cookies and similar technologies — including pixel tags and local storage — to facilitate site functionality, analyze traffic, and improve the User experience. See Section 7 for a full description of our Cookie practices.

3.3 Information from Third Parties

We may receive information about Users from third-party services integrated with the Publication, including but not limited to:

  • Email marketing platforms used to administer newsletters and subscriber communications;
  • Analytics providers used to measure site performance and audience behavior;
  • Payment processors, including Stripe and Patreon, in connection with transactional activity;
  • Social media platforms, if you interact with Macabre Magazine™ through those channels or connect a social account to any feature of the Publication.

4. How We Use Your Information

Dark Harbor Press LLC uses the Personal Data collected through Macabre Magazine™ for the following purposes:

To Operate and Maintain the Publication. To deliver content, process submissions, manage subscriptions, respond to inquiries, and otherwise administer the day-to-day functions of Macabre Magazine™.

To Communicate With You. To send newsletters, editorial announcements, submission status updates, responses to correspondence, and other communications relevant to your relationship with Macabre Magazine™. You may opt out of non-transactional communications at any time.

To Process Transactions. To facilitate purchases, contributions, and subscriptions made through the Publication, including communication with our payment processors, Stripe and Patreon, as necessary to complete and record those transactions.

To Understand Our Reader Base. We analyze aggregated and, where appropriate, individual usage data to understand who our readers are, what content resonates with our audience, how our readership is growing, and what editorial and strategic decisions best serve our community. This includes demographic analysis, content performance evaluation, and audience segmentation for internal editorial and business purposes.

To Conduct Marketing and Promotional Activities. We use Personal Data — including email addresses, engagement history, and content preferences — to send marketing communications, promote new issues, features, submissions calls, events, merchandise, and other Macabre Magazine™ initiatives. We may use analytics and engagement data to tailor these communications to be relevant to your demonstrated interests. You may opt out of marketing communications at any time without affecting your access to the Publication.

To Improve the Publication. To analyze usage patterns, diagnose technical issues, evaluate content performance, and make editorial and operational improvements to Macabre Magazine™.

To Ensure Legal Compliance. To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal obligations, and to protect the legal rights and interests of Dark Harbor Press LLC and Blakemore Enterprises LLC.

To Enforce Our Terms. To investigate and address violations of our Terms of Service, this Privacy Policy, or any other applicable agreement.

To Protect Users and the Publication. To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, security threats, and other harmful conduct.

We do not use your Personal Data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.


5. What We Do Not Do With Your Data

The following practices are expressly prohibited under this Policy and are not engaged in by Dark Harbor Press LLC:

  • We do not sell your Personal Data to any third party, for any purpose, under any circumstances.
  • We do not trade or exchange your Personal Data for goods, services, or commercial consideration of any kind.
  • We do not use your Personal Data for third-party behavioral advertising or targeted advertising campaigns conducted by external advertisers.
  • We do not share your Personal Data with data brokers, marketing aggregators, or any party whose primary business involves the commercial exploitation of personal information.

6. How We Share Your Information

Macabre Magazine™ does not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your Personal Data for commercial purposes. We may, however, share limited Personal Data in the following specific and necessary circumstances:

Service Providers. We engage trusted third-party vendors to operate certain aspects of the Publication — including web hosting, email delivery, analytics, payment processing, and marketing platforms. These vendors, which include but are not limited to Stripe and Patreon, are contractually obligated to process Personal Data solely on our behalf and in accordance with this Policy. They are prohibited from using your data for their own independent commercial purposes beyond what is necessary to deliver their services to us.

Marketing Partners. We may share limited, non-sensitive data — such as email addresses and engagement metrics — with email marketing platforms and analytics tools used to administer Macabre Magazine™‘s promotional communications. This sharing is strictly for the purpose of delivering and measuring our own marketing activity and does not constitute a sale or commercial transfer of your data.

Legal Obligations. We may disclose Personal Data if required to do so by law, court order, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Dark Harbor Press LLC, our Users, or the public.

Business Transfers. In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets involving Dark Harbor Press LLC or Blakemore Enterprises LLC, Personal Data held by the Publication may be transferred as part of that transaction. Users will be notified of any such transfer and any material changes to this Policy that result from it.

With Your Consent. We may share your Personal Data in any other manner to which you have expressly consented.

In all cases, we share only the minimum Personal Data necessary for the stated purpose.

7.1 What We Use

Macabre Magazine™ uses the following categories of cookies and similar technologies:

Strictly Necessary Cookies. Required for the Publication’s website to function. These cannot be disabled without impairing core site functionality.

Analytics Cookies. Used to collect aggregated and anonymized data about how Users interact with the Publication — including pages visited, session duration, and traffic sources — to help us understand our audience and improve our content and user experience.

Marketing and Engagement Cookies. Used to track engagement with our communications and promotional content, measure the effectiveness of our marketing activities, and deliver relevant Macabre Magazine™ communications to Users based on demonstrated interest.

Submission records are retained for the duration of our publishing relationship with the Contributor and for a reasonable period thereafter. Subscriber and account data is retained for the duration of the subscription or account relationship and for a reasonable period following its termination. Transaction records are retained as required by applicable financial and tax regulations. You may request deletion of your Personal Data at any time, subject to the exceptions described in Section 10.


9. Data Security

Dark Harbor Press LLC implements reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect Personal Data against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encrypted data transmission, access controls, and periodic security review of our systems and practices.

No method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure. While we are committed to protecting your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach that affects your Personal Data, we will notify affected Users as required by applicable law.


10. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights with respect to your Personal Data held by Macabre Magazine™:

Right to Access. You may request a copy of the Personal Data we hold about you.

Right to Correction. You may request that inaccurate or incomplete Personal Data be corrected.

Right to Deletion. You may request that we delete your Personal Data. Note that we may be required to retain certain data to comply with legal obligations, enforce our agreements, or resolve disputes.

Right to Restrict Processing. You may request that we limit the ways in which we use your Personal Data in certain circumstances.

Right to Data Portability. Where technically feasible and legally required, you may request that your Personal Data be provided to you in a structured, machine-readable format.

Right to Withdraw Consent. Where our processing of your Personal Data is based on your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to withdrawal.

Right to Opt Out of Marketing Communications. You may unsubscribe from any marketing or promotional email communications from Macabre Magazine™ at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in those communications or by contacting us directly. Opting out of marketing communications does not affect your receipt of transactional or service-related communications.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address provided in Section 14. We will respond to verified requests within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law.


11. Age Restrictions and Minors

Macabre Magazine™ publishes horror and mature literary content, including material of an R-rated nature. Accordingly, the Publication is intended for Users who are at least 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from individuals under the age of 16.

If we become aware that Personal Data has been collected from an individual under the age of 16, we will take immediate steps to delete that information and terminate any associated account or subscription. If you believe that an individual under the age of 16 has provided us with Personal Data or is accessing the Publication, please notify us immediately at the address in Section 14.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to monitor minors’ access to online publications, including Macabre Magazine™, and to contact us with any concerns.


12. Third-Party Platforms and Links

Macabre Magazine™ maintains presences on third-party social media platforms and may link to external websites. This Policy applies solely to data collected directly by Macabre Magazine™ and Dark Harbor Press LLC. It does not govern the privacy practices of any third-party platform or website. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through or in connection with the Publication.

When you interact with Macabre Magazine™ on social media platforms — including but not limited to X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube — those platforms collect and process your data according to their own policies, over which we have no control.

Transactions processed through Stripe and Patreon are governed in part by those platforms’ respective privacy policies, available at stripe.com/privacy and patreon.com/privacy.


13. Changes to This Policy

Dark Harbor Press LLC reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. When we do, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this page and post the revised Policy to cms.macabremagazine.com/. Where changes are material, we will make reasonable efforts to notify Users directly — such as through a notice on the website or an email to subscribers — prior to the changes taking effect. Your continued use of the Publication following the posting of a revised Policy constitutes your acceptance of those changes.
